Claire has always been interested in making things, as a young girl she spent a lot of time in her Fathers ‘shed’ making ‘sculptures’ melting solder with a blow torch and forming all sorts of strange things, she has always loved drawing, painting and creating her work has always been imaginative and different .. The introduction to clay was quite unexpected when she applied to do an art course at TAFE and there was only a vacantly in ceramics, she has loved using clay for around forty years now. Claire moved to Sydney with her family and completed Certificate 4 in ceramics at NAS Brookvale Certificate in Design at Hornsby TAFE Post graduate studies at Monash university, writing her paper on ‘Quarts Paste’ technique at the Blue Pottery in Jaipur, India. Teaching ceramics and visual arts at TAFE collages in Sydney, Mudgee, Dubbo and Newcastle has been a large part her life for many years and even now loves to give workshops on design and decoration. Early in her potting career she worked mainly on the wheel making table ware for Galleries and shows, gradually favouring decorating and the soft slab technique using porcelain clay, some how they always seem to have a handle and a spout. After spending around ten years in Mudgee, central west of NSW we are back to the coast at beautiful Lake Macquarie.
